Phil Bolden (a.k.a. Buffalo Phil):
A native of Buffalo, NY but I have called Detroit and the metro-area home
for most of my life with the last 13 years living downtown. As the offspring
of musicians and music lovers I have always been musically inclined and involved
in school choirs and theater, but I never picked up an instrument until 1989
when I bought my first bass guitar at a pawn shop in Alamogordo, NM. I was
in the Army at the time and had won some money playing bingo (with little
else to do in the desert) I began teaching myself out of books and making
up little ditties that still show up in my musical contributions to the band
even today. Throughout the last 3 years in the service I jammed and practiced
with my bands that never played out, and somehow recorded my own music using
a Casio keyboard, a bass, and my compact home stereo. Since my home coming
in `92 I have been in 4 other bands:
Broken Program- a Gold Dollar inspired space/noise jam band (Gary Wind, Shane
McMahon, Curtis Paul, & Quincy). Another band with Brent Bacher though
the band name escapes me- we recorded in Toronto but never played live. Frame
Three Thirteen – a Bill Blank (Bill Boyer) band wherein I was replaced
before their only gig to date at the Old Miami. Pole Cat- a 10 year plus Detroit
based band which I auditioned for 3 times before we I was finally a solid
member of the band in 2000. I think the final version of Pole Cat gigged twice
in my loft in Greek Town in 2001. Fifth Floor- was a spin-off band of Pole
Cat (minus the lead singer) until I moved from the 5th floor of the building
to the 2nd floor and we became Bricktown Station in 2002/2003. Since then
I have been very happily a member of BTS and I still occasionally compose
my own music on keyboard and bass for my own edification!
